Taking Your Pet to Holiday Functions

If you're like most people, your pet is as big of a part of your family as your children and spouse. When holiday time rolls around, you will most likely loathe the thought of leaving your pets behind to go visit family and friends or boarding your pet where they get lonely and sometimes catch illnesses from other pets being boarded.

First of all, make sure the host of your gathering is okay with your request to bring along the family pet or pets and then make sure your pets are well behaved enough to take to a family gathering. No one wants to be around badly behaved children or ill-behaved pets.

You can make short time training your pet by taking him out in a carrier such as an over the shoulder carrier. These carriers have mesh sides and a clip inside to secure your pet so that he can't jump out and cause injury to himself or others. Bring along some treats and talk soothingly to your pet and when he remains calm, reward him with a treat. He will quickly learn that being calm brings great rewards and many pets wind up jumping into their carriers and look forward to going out with their owners.

Groom your dog, get him a shiny new collar and take him to your family function in style in an over the shoulder dog carrier and know that your pet will be better behaved than many people's children!
