Advantages Of Spaying Or Neutering Your Pet

Advantages Of Spaying Or Neutering Your Pet

Spaying or neutering has a number of advantages for pets and their owners. First, let's explain exactly what the terms spaying or neutering mean.

Female pets are spayed. Spaying involves surgically removing the female reproductive system. It is much the same as a woman having a hysterectomy. Expect your pet to take 10 days to recover, with one possible overnight stay at the vet directly after the surgery. A Microwaveable Dog/Cat Heating Pad may provide relief from pain near the surgical site.

Male pets are neutered. Neutering involves removing the testes from the sack so sperm production is eliminated. This is a simple surgical procedure and nearly all males can go home as soon as they wake up from the anesthesia.

Obviously spaying or neutering your pet is advantageous if you do not wish your pet to reproduce. However, there are other advantages to spaying or neutering as well. Spaying or neutering your pet affects it's disposition, in affect removing seasonal aggression linked to either a female's estrus cycle or a young male's testosterone surge.

Females will no longer experience the urge to escape the yard during their 'season' and males will loose most of the aggressive urge to hunt down females in heat. Life becomes much more peaceful after spaying or neutering your pet. Pets also display cleanlier habits after spaying or neutering. Females will no longer leave spotting on the furniture or floors, and males will loose a lot of the urge to urinate excessively to mark their territory.

Spaying or neutering your pet makes sense. You can cut down on the number of unwanted pets in your community, while helping your pet to avoid undesirable behaviors. If you're sure you don't want to breed your pet, consider spaying or neutering your pet and you'll never have to worry again.
